about
A long time ago some very smart person invented the propeller, which turned swiftly and served useful functions such as moving vehicles forward through water and air. It’s not exactly a coincidence that one of the original aims of this weblog was also to move things forward. Now, however, I’m happy for it to be my online home and a place to post entries about the stuff I find interesting. Some of you may remember the beta version of my weblog, which ran from about July 2002 to December 2002. If you’d like to look at those old postings (including my reflections on visiting Egypt) they are available here.
By way of introduction, I am a 32-year-old journalist with a particular interest in magazines, newspapers and online publishing. For pay, I have been Assistant News Editor at The Globe and Mail newspaper (where I do copy editing, page design and layout, and headline writing) since September of 2008. Prior to this I was a Page One Editor at the National Post. I also serve as the Web Editor for This Magazine, a long-running national magazine for leftys. I moved to Toronto in September 2003 after growing up on Vancouver Island and residing in Vancouver for eight memorable years.
